Kong builds infrastructure for API traffic at scale. Its platform combines Kong API Gateway, described as the world's most adopted API gateway, with Kong AI Gateway, Kong Service Mesh, Kong Ingress Controller and Kong Cloud API Platform. The company positions itself around two related goals: helping firms become API-first organisations and helping them adopt AI securely.
The technical scope is broad. Kong works across API management, API security, microservices connectivity, cloud-native infrastructure and cloud platform engineering, with products aimed at Kubernetes-based environments and at enterprise teams managing large volumes of API traffic. Its gateway powers hundreds of billions of API calls a day, and the company says it serves more than 700 enterprise customers worldwide.
Kong operates globally and describes itself as a team of engineers and problem-solvers, with an engineering-driven culture focused on developer productivity, security and performance. The company began life as Mashape before rebranding to Kong.
