Laurel

Laurel builds an AI Time platform for professional services firms that automatically captures work activity and generates accurate timesheets, using AI to reconstruct how professionals spend their days.

Laurel builds what it calls the world's first AI Time platform, aimed at professional services firms. Rather than simply logging hours, the software uses artificial intelligence to reconstruct how professionals spend their working day, capture work activity automatically and generate timesheets. The stated aim is to connect time data to business outcomes, in an industry where timekeeping has long been a manual and unreliable chore; the company was founded by a former litigator who encountered the problem first-hand.

The technical work spans several domains: natural-language understanding of professional work, work activity capture and reconstruction, and time tracking and timesheet automation. Security has been an early priority, with field-level encryption and regional data processing built in as enterprise-grade features. The company describes its team as combining deep AI expertise with empathy for the professionals it serves, and operates as a remote-friendly workplace with a stated mission to "return time to the world".

Laurel sells into accounting, consulting and legal firms. Customers number in the hundreds and include EY, Grant Thornton and Reed Smith. The platform processes over $5 billion in gross market value for customers annually, and the company reports that clients capture an additional 28 billable minutes per professional per day, translating into profit increases of 4-11%. Investors include IVP, Google Ventures and 01A.
